Transgender Sex Offender Sent to Men’s Prison: Court Cites Biological Sex in Controversial Ruling
A convicted sex offender who later began identifying as female has been sentenced to serve time in a men’s prison due to biological sex.
Natalie Wolf, previously known as Ryan Haley, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Washington, Tyne and Wear.

She has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years, placed on the sex offenders register for life, and given a sexual harm prevention order. Under UK law, transgender women who retain male anatomy or have histories of violent or sexual offenses are required to serve time in male facilities.
The victim spoke bravely during the trial, emphasizing the trauma and lasting impact of the abuse. The case highlights ongoing challenges in the UK around prison policies for transgender individuals and the rising number of trans prisoners.
